This will be the first DTS to run in the centre of Dublin city. Our objective is to bring in world-class teachers for lecture phase and train each student to be an effective follower of Jesus in today’s post-modern society.
As part of your DTS, you will be joining in with our Dublin community and assisting us as we pioneer and strategise in bringing the gospel to our city in creative and new ways. In doing so, we hope you will be inspired and equipped to do the same where ever you go after you leave. We want your DTS experience to be one that you can take away and easily apply to life at home.
We want every student to dream with us as we dream with God and be equipped to live a life of purpose and intentionality. We will do our best to help you see how God works in your individual passions, gifting and calling, so that you can live life to the full as you bring the love of God into whatever sphere you were made for.
As we are very much at pioneering stages of our vision for Dublin, DTS students will be a part of building our vision and assisting us set things up and expand. There will be heaps of space to create with us and become a part of our broader community, in impacting our city as God inspires us.
As already mentioned, this DTS will be the first DTS to run in Dublin City Centre, but it will be the 4th DTS run by the schools leadership. On average DTS' around the world, run for approximatley 24 weeks. Twelve weeks of lecture phase and twelve weeks of outreach. With the flexible nature of DTS and based on our experience over the last few years, we've decided to mix it up a little.
Dublin DTS will run for 28 weeks/approximately 6 1/2 months. The school will consist of three 5-week sections for the lecture phase plus 13 weeks for outreach in Dublin and abroad and finish with debrief.
From our experience running DTS' we have found that it can be a very intense and compressed time, often without enough time to process what God is doing in our lives. At the end of the DTS we want everyone to be able to carry what God has done in their life into the rest of their life and make the DTS a launching pad to propel them into what is next. Each 5-week section will consist of 4 weeks of lectures and 1 week of processing and time out. This processing time, will be spent in another European city, such as Prague, London, Budapest or Reykjavick, the options are endless.
With this time off we will process the proceeding 4 weeks and allow time for us to meditate on what God has said, and let it sink in and bring about change wherever needed. We will also use this time to connect with other communities in urban settings, and exchange ideas and methods for change in our cities. This will be a great way to experience the beauty and diversity of Europe as well as be a great chance for some well-earned rest and relaxation.
The dates the DTS will run are from the 14th of July 2010 until the 28th of January 2011, which is just over 28 weeks.
Accommodation for the DTS will be in rented housing in the city. We are being very deliberate about being involved in the movements and life of the city and not building up a sheltered and isolated community environment. We are in the city for the people of the city and we want everything we do to touch the lives of the people around us. We feel we can only do this by being an organic community that lives like the people around us.
The DTS will cost 2500 Euro and this will cover all living expenses and lectures during the first 15 weeks of the DTS. It will also cover the trips and asscociated costs to the other European cities. It will not cover personal spending money, visa application fees (if needed), health insurance or cost of outreach. The cost of the outreach is variable and mostly depends on the flights to the outreach country. An estimated cost would be around 1500-2200 Euro.
